October truly marks the start of the new season, the weather is finally starting to warm up and daylight savings sees the beginning of more outdoor events and socialising. One of those occasions is the Spring Racing Carnival which across October and November gives you plenty of excuses to get dressed up. With this always comes the question: what to wear? Particularly when you have more monochrome tendencies like myself, it can be hard to find a way to mix things up outside of Derby Day. This event season I’ll be looking to navy and white for a slightly softer, almost neutral combination, that keeps you looking and feeling stylish at every event.
One of the things I love most about navy is that it can be paired back with almost everything in your wardrobe. Both of these separate sets are a great example of looks that are perfect for the races, but can also been worn individually with other pieces in your closet. On the weekend, I pair this navy & white cropped cami top with a pair of high-waisted jeans, while the navy skirt works well styled with a simple silk cami and a blazer for weekday appointments.
If you’re still seeking inspiration, look to the runways where navy has had a strong presence across recent SS16 shows. A few of my favourite designers presented navy outfits or separates at NYFW where I was lucky enough to attend a few shows. It’s proof that it truly is one of the most versatile and flattering colours, equally perfect for making a statement or an understated everyday look.
