Model Louise van der Vorst and her little baby Roosevelt spend a beautiful summer's day by the beach. Here she talks to nostalgic summer moments and just what makes an Australian Christmas so special.
What is your most favourite beach spot?
“I adore Long Reef Beach. I spent my years living directly across from this beautiful piece of Australia. There is something so isolated and magical about this beach, especially compared to many of the more congested and more popular beaches along the Northern Coast."
Describe a perfect summer’s day:
“Waking up to no alarm but from the light and heat of the sunrise in the morning. Roosevelt often sleeps in my bed with me so cuddling him under only a linen top sheet. Making breakfast in the kitchen and returning to bed - there is no better way to start a day. Then wandering down to the beach or park, and spending the day with him in the shade, often friends will join us. I think a perfect summer day to me, is a day with no plans or commitments, just the entire day to play out as Rose and I wish."
Do you have any advice regarding travelling with young children?
“Preparation. I love spontaneity. But now that I am a mother, I have learnt that I have to throw myself into this moments, with a little more time and ground work. Treats, toys and distractions for travelling in the car is necessary. I am lucky to have a very chilled and easy-going baby, but his patience is tested in the car at times.”
What has been your favourite moment together since becoming a mother?
“Waking up together every morning.”
How do you plan to spend this Christmas together and what do you think makes an Australian Christmas so special?
“Australia Christmas to me is the summer. I have usually lived on the beach or water in Australia, so it does not feel like Christmas to me unless I am on a beach and trying to stay cool indoors with a fan and eating a mango after Christmas lunch. I may travel to Byron for Christmas this year, to spend the day watching Roosevelt play in the sun with his gifts from Santa.”
How would you describe your summer style and how does that fit into your summer lifestyle?
“My style is totally undone, and relaxed. As cliché as it sounds, bohemian. I live for slip dresses. I find nothing more chic yet easy to wear. I spend days AND nights in them; over swimmers damp from the beach, with flats and a blazer to castings and jobs or with gold jewellery and heels for dinner. The ease of slip dresses absolutely fits with my daily lifestyle, but also makes me feel beautiful and powerful.”
