The arrival of March often signals the beginning of your winter wardrobe, where warm weather staples are traded in favour of woollen knits, coats and jackets.
Kate Gaskin is a revered stylist known for her work across respected titles like Elle, Vanity Fair and The Age over the last two decades. These days, she’s most notably recognised for her talents on the runway at Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival and Melbourne Fashion Week.
The stylist recently visited our head office to preview our March collection, and style the three essential jackets that every wardrobe needs.

TWILL WOOL COAT
“A coat is the one wardrobe item I always invest in each season and I love the classic shape and colour of this piece. The colour depth of the camel is a perfect mid level, meaning it will suit virtually any colouring and not wash you out.
” “Camel is also the perfect alternative to black—it can be worn with any colour you’d wear black with, and is perfect back with denim.
I love that this piece isn’t too heavy either, making it great for layering with knitwear for the colder months, or over a tee or shirt for milder climates. I’ve opted for a size up than I’d normally wear as I tend to love my coats a bit bigger to allow for casual layering. For a dressier look, you can also cinch in the waist with a great leather belt.”
SOFT TRENCH COAT
“This soft wrap trench is the ultimate in chic outerwear for the cooler months. It is the perfect weight for layering, an easy piece to style back with casual basics or a chic piece for over workwear and suiting. The leather belt detailing really completes the look.
I’ve styled it here with a skirt, however it’s also the perfect silhouette to wear back with a high waisted wide leg pant, or over a dress with boots.”
“A black blazer is the one wardrobe staple you can’t go without. It’s an easy style to dress down for day, back with a basic tee and denim, or up for evening with leather or a dress and heels.
It's all in the detail when it comes to a simple piece such as a blazer. I love the split sleeves and longer line silhouette of this piece—they really elevate it from an everyday basic to a chic style statement, while still maintaining a classic appeal that won’t date and will see you through many seasons.”
