This season, in a crisp palette of black and white with hints of blush pink, golden honey and touches of florals, our women’s collection takes on a more polished, tailored look. Here, we take you behind the scenes, where designer Nimmi Premaratne and junior designer Isabelle Heriot talk us through the inspiration and process of designing our new womenswear collection.
ON THE INSPIRATION
This season is defined by soft tailoring accented with floral, languid satin and a touch of winter gold. Femininity and masculinity play off each other in perfect harmony.
ON THE DESIGN PROCESS
I always start with fabric – that is what builds feel and mood for the collection. Fabrics evolve and it’s that evolution which inspires me. From there it’s about designing pieces that pay homage to the fabrics, while always keeping in mind the customer and her wardrobe needs.
Colour comes from a very intrinsic place and is always applied with the end garment in mind. I try to picture myself wearing the pieces and how I would feel in the silhouette or colour.
Once the design is finalised it is then realised into a garment sample. From here every detail can be further perfected on body, allowing me to think about the ease and versatility of a piece and importantly, how the customer will feel in it.
ON THE FABRICS
There is a real play on soft and relaxed against structured and tailored. Fabric selections therefore lend themselves to this dichotomy – soft silks and satins play off against triacetates and wool.
ON THE COLOUR PALETTE
The colour palette for this collection was built from a strong base of black, white, blush and ice grey, then offset with rich honey tones.
ON THE KEY INVESTMENT PIECES
This seasons must-have pieces include the perfect tailored double breasted jacket, our luxe satin wrap skirt and the military wool trench coat.
