Back To School: How Justine Ilarda Is Preparing For The Year Ahead

We're sad to say it, but the holidays are coming to an end, which means the children are about to head back to school. The change in pace can be daunting for some of the little ones - but with the right preparation you can make the transition a more simple process. Here, we join Justine Ilarda and her three gorgeous girls as they prepare for the school year ahead.
How do you prepare for getting the girls back to school and kinder?
"Ideally I like to prepare early and have everything ready so we aren’t rushing around a few days before school starts, that way we can make the most of those last few days of school holidays and spend it at the beach instead of in a shopping centre. All their stationary gets purchased at the end of the last school year through the school so that’s one less thing to worry about."
"Even picking up new school uniform is done at the end of the year so we aren’t standing for hours in line at the uniform shop the first week back. Getting the girls involved in choosing anything else that is needed is a great way to help them get excited over back to school too!"
Do you have any advice on how to organise your children for the school year?
"At the end of the year we go through all their school gear and see what needs to be thrown out or what can be re-used the following year. Usually it’s always shoes, socks, lunch bags and water bottles that need to be replaced. The girls make a list and we try to tick off the list at the start of the school holidays."
"The girls love getting involved and they get really excited choosing what they will need for a new school year ahead! This year the girls got new school bags, lunch bags, over night/ swimming bags and towels with their name personalised on them so they were really happy about that. "
Are there any must haves for their wardrobes?
"The girls school requires them to wear a school uniform however they aren’t too strict as long as they stick to navy blue. We always stock up on navy blue leggings from Country Road and we love the new Heritage sweats from Country Road especially since the blue ones can be worn to school. On the weekends the girls love wearing comfy dresses or jeans and a tee. The chambray and floral lace dresses are their favourites at the moment!"
How do you deal with any hesitation from your girls have re heading back to school?
"The girls always have back to school jitters! We try to prepare as early as possible so that we aren’t stressed or rushing around anxiously last minute. Finding out who is in the girls class before school starts usually helps as there is always at least a couple kids if not more who they are already friends with which helps ease their mind a little."
"I also always pop a little Calm oil roller in the school bags and tell them that if they ever feel nervous to roll it on their wrists and I think just the thought that they can do that helps them. As nervous as they can be sometimes, they always come home on the first day with big smiles!"
